WHEN Keating was Prime Minister and the Brisbane Broncos claimed their second premiership, Michael and Cheryl Collins started a business.

In the 30 years since 1993 their family-run Brisbane Mini Excavator Sales (BMES) has built an envied reputation for service and reliability.

In the early days it concentrated on excavators but progressed to loaders over the past 10 years, according to sales manager Steve Ragenovich.

Mr Collins' involvement in the earth moving industry pre-date the dawn of BMES and his philosophy to do things right has never altered, Mr Ragenovich said.

BMES is the exclusive distributor of Airman Excavators, Sunward Excavators and Skid Steers, Hercules Wheeled Loaders and Mini Loaders and Heavy Construction Hercules Loaders Graders and Dozers, the company website claims.

"The exceptional loaders we sell is only one part of why this company is so respected," Mr Ragenovich said.

"People are familiar with our product and I think the biggest thing they come back to us for is reliability, after sales service and longevity in the business.

"Michael has been in the earthmoving industry since the 1980s and over the years he and his family have built a wonderful business.

"We have a long-term dedicated team with strong industry knowledge to support our customers and to give our customers the best solutions for their projects.

"We focus on our customer's earthmoving needs from selecting the right machine for the job and then supporting our customers for servicing and parts after their purchase."

BMES services a considerable segment of the agricultural sector including cotton, cattle and farming.

They can tailor loaders to suit the specific needs of a customer, Mr Ragenovich said.

"We can supply loaders and all the fittings if we need to customise a loader to suit the customer's requirements," he added.

"People are realising now that they don't have to do the backbreaking work, that they can buy a loader with a stick rake on it to do the tough stuff.

"So if a customer wants, say rear rippers they can take off at times, then we can make those adjustments. We can install protective guards on either side of the machine to protect all the working parts and if the customer asks for tinted glass and auto or additional strengthening for the bucket for blocks and hardfacing then it's done.

"We have two resident engineer welders on top of mechanics, auto electricians and hydraulic experts."

Besides sales, BMES also has a large rental fleet and spare parts and offers technical assistance to buyers, who may need advice.
